THE HARDEST PRISON TO ESCAPE IS YOUR MIND!

When I believe it, I will see it” – This is the most impressive presupposition I learned from the NLP course and now it becomes my strongly powerful spell, Long said.

With a grand passion for education, an ordinary English teacher who is able to enhance students’ English fluency is not the end goal Long is heading to. Instead, he wants to be the teacher that his students can turn to when they face difficulties in life so he can coach them to overcome the challenges. In order to accomplish this, he deeply understands that he must overcome his own obstacles and know how to control his thoughts and emotions before assisting others. This is the reason why he registered for this course.

On the second day of the course, Long learned about intention setting and his intention was “I want to feel confident about myself”. He shared that when he was a child, his parents and teachers usually compared him with his siblings or classmates. Therefore, he is so afraid of other people’s judgment that he rarely expresses himself. Due to intention-setting which acts as an inner compass, he was committed to change himself. But how?

He decided to take a short “PAUSE” in his mind to refrain from his usual behaviors and thoughts. Then, tenderly whisper to his mind and heart “When I believe it, I will see it” to build up self-belief. Eventually, he would act differently. A change in mind leads to a change in behavior. Specifically, in terms of observable behaviors, he used to keep silent in class, be inactive during class activities and occasionally talk with other classmates. On the third and fourth days, he applied the technique and successfully raised his voice when he had concerns, volunteered in the teacher’s activities and established new relationships with other people.

In addition, he said that he will give self-recognition no matter he fails or succeeds. This is because in the past, he always criticized himself when failing to achieve his goal, gave excuses for his failure and even felt jealous of people who could get it. Now, whenever anything similar happens to him, he will choose to stop for a while, concentrate on what he can learn from the experience, on the progress that he makes so far and decide to praise himself for at least giving it a try. All in all, he chooses to PAUSE to have faith in himself!

Long has successfully discovered the proper solution to his problem by changing his regular pattern and he is now looking forward to the upcoming month to come back to the NLP course. What about you? Are you willing to find your own remedy to break the “old” pattern and replace it with a new “healthy” one?
